1. ASTM A519 Scope

1.2 this specification covers seamless thermoformed mechanical tubes and seamless cold formed

mechanical tubes 12 3 ⁄ 4 in. And smaller. Outer diameter of round pipe with wall thickness meeting

requirements (323.8 mm).

1.3 pipes shall be provided in the following shapes as specified by the buyer: round, square,

rectangular and round Special sections.

1.4 optional supplementary requirements are provided and shall be stated in the order if necessary.

1.5 values expressed in inch pound units shall be considered standard. The values given

in parentheses are for reference only

2. Materials and Manufacture

(1 )The steel may be made by any process.

(2) If a specifific type of melting is required by the purchaser, it shall be as stated on the purchase order.

(3) The primary melting may incorporate separate degassing or refifining, and may be followed by

secondary melting,such as electroslag or vacuum-arc remelting. If secondary melting is employed,

the heat shall be defifined as all of the ingots remelted from a single primary heat.

(4) Steel may be cast in ingots or may be strand cast. When steel of different grades is sequentially

strand cast, identifification of the resultant transition material is required. The producer shall remove

the transition material by an established procedure that positively separates the grades.
